  8. is a hypertext word processor.  (Hypertext allows you to branch off into more
  9. detailed areas when reading a document on the computer.)  With BLACK MAGIC
  10. documents, information can be linked in three different ways:  with Note
  11. Links, Reference Links, and Replacement Links.  Text and graphics can be
  12. merged into an integrated whole.  (CGA compatibility required.)

  14. One user reported that this is nothing more than a demo, but other users
  15. report that they have found it to be useful and worth the cost of getting the
  16. three disks. This appears to be one of those programs that some people think
  17. is great and other people think is worthless. If you fall into the latter
  18. group, you can exchange the disks under the Terms and Conditions explained
  19. under "Free Disks" in this issue.

  21. Three existing link types are designed for conveying information. A DOS link
  22. adds a new dimension to hypertext in that its purpose is to link hypertext in
  23. with external DOS applications. This allows the user to leave the system in
  24. real time, go to another DOS application and then return to the hypertext
  25. system at exactly the same place you left. It also contains ASCII links.

  32. is a full featured hypertext word processor. This program contains over 600
  33. screens of pop-up help on disk as well as a 72 page ready-to-print documentation
  34. manual. Use it as a work organizer, personal information manager, or an
  35. operations guide. Create your own applications without programming. Use the
  36. calendar for flexibility scheduling your time. Easily create interactive
  37. reference manuals, expert systems, and educational programs to help you with
  38. your work.

  42. index, a daily log that automatically records your time, selective printing of

  55. context-sensitive, pop-up help for any program. It can be used with any text
  56. editor for creating a custom flat help system, or use it with Hyper-Word to
  57. create a multi-dimensional hypertext help system.

  60. changes to your programs. It can pass data to your programs or to DOS,
  61. allowing it to be used as a DOS menu system. A high-capacity floppy or a hard

  69. is a hypertext file reader. Hypertext is a means of reading documents on a
  70. computer in a non-linear manner, optionally branching off in new directions at
  71. any time. For example, in a technical document, you might branch off to get a
  72. description of a term and then resume reading, or in a story, you could branch
  73. into your choice of a new plot development without returning.

  75. The documentation and sample hypertext files that come with Hype show you how
  76. to embed commands in your text files to create Hype-readable documents. This
  77. is not as easy as having a program that creates the hypertext documents for
  78. you, but it is workable if you can follow directions.

  95. is a pop-up (60k or 3k+EMS) file scan and hypertext tool. This program lets
  96. you view files, search them for specific information, and link them together
  97. in hypertext fashion, as well as perform some file management tasks. It works
  98. well as a stand-alone product or can be used in conjunction with PC-Write.

  101. name, search for text within files, look up information and paste it into the
  102. program you are running or print it and more.

  110. contents of a specially prepared file, one page at a time, with the pages
  111. subdivided into chapters. The index display lists these chapters with their
  112. index keys. Access any chapter with one keystroke. There is a special password
  113. provision in the program to prevent the accidental accessing of a file which was
  114. not written for BOOK.COM. It also includes a demo to show what your masterpiece
  115. might look like. Requires an ASCII word processor to make pages and index.

  122. is a set of tools for creating your own "magazine on a disk".  It could be
  123. customized to do various other jobs from an on-disk resume to a DOS menu
  124. program.  The program can display text files and run programs.  The text display
  125. windows have SEARCH and GOTO functions.  The text display commands are Word Star
  126. commands and the program can be called from MS Windows.

  133. allows a writer to easily create an electronic "book" to be read on-line with
  134. many sophisticated features. Iris is very well conceived and designed that
  135. makes the most of the advantages of reading text on-line rather than on paper,
  136. such as being able to jump around instantly and to enhance the presentation of
  137. information with colors and sound.

  139. User options are presented in boxes on the side of the screen and selection is
  140. fast and easy. User input can be requested and stored; programs can be run
  141. from within the "book". Iris could be used for many types of applications,
  142. from reference materials to adventure games. The disk comes with two complete
  143. electronic books, a tutorial and a reference "book". A pop-up notetaker is
  144. included, and on-line help is readily available.

  151. is a simple but workable hypertext system.  It was created for use with the
  152. Captain Blackbeard programmer's editor (disk #802), but Spyglass is also
  153. useful on its own.  It includes utilities for creating and viewing the
  154. hypertext files.

  161. is a hypertext authoring and control system. It supports text and graphics
  162. screens, with or without selection zones for "hypering" into other areas.
  163. Graphics formats supported are PCX and BLOAD files for Hercules, CGA, EGA and
  164. VGA. Selection zones on graphics files allow you to click on an element of the
  165. graphic, such as a transistor in a diagram, and get more information about it.
  166. Another feature is the ability to convert Norton Guide files to HyperShell
  167. format files.
